Donation to Ludzik Rehab Centre

Light of Day Canada presented a $20,000 cheque to the Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab from proceeds raised from a Blue Rodeo concert.  The benefit concert was held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines.

The Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab provides interprofessional care for clients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease – it occurs when the cells that normally produce dopamine, a chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain, die.

“Light of Day Canada is proud of our new partnership with our friends, Steve Ludzik and the staff at Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre,” says Mike Minervin on behalf of Light of Day Canada.  “We are delighted to assist in funding a great program that is extremely beneficial to members of our community suffering from Parkinson’s disease.”

Currently the Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab has a waiting list of up to 3 years and runs at 8 sessions per year, 6 weeks in length and approximately 8 patients per session.

“These additional funds from Light of Day Canada allow Hotel Dieu Shaver to continue its mandate to serve the residents of Niagara,” says Steve Ludzik, philanthropist and former NHLer.  “Our goal is to eliminate the waiting list all together.”

The Parkinson’s Centre is funded entirely by community donations raised through Ludzy’s Celebrity Roast, Ludzy’s Charity Golf Tournament, Hockey Night in St. Catharines and generous donors like Light of Day Canada.
